title: before the apocalypse
word count: ~ 2 000 words
disclaimer: The characters are not mine sadly; only the plot is.
This is the other piece I wrote for the Big Bang Comment Fic Fest, which I highly encourage all who are interested in writing about Big Bang to join. Inspired by the prompt, and also by the urge to write something about the world ending. I guess I'm just weird like that.
Prompt by cuz_im_a_vip:
Kiss me, as if the world would end afterwards
Kiss me, and kiss by kiss turn the world upside down.
Kiss me, without reason, because the heart desires it.
And I'll always be with you.
The world ends in a cacophony of nature on Seungri's twenty-second birthday.
It starts with a loud rumble of earth-shattering proportions which becomes literal. Seungri is in the shower when it happens, drying off when he feels the tremors under his feet.
He begins to panic when the glass vase containing fresh daffodils falls off the countertop and breaks into shards near his feet. Ignoring the cuts, he quickly ties his towel around his waist as he rushes towards the balcony of his room. Horror floods him at that instant because right before his eyes, the tall skyscrapers dotting the Seoul skyline are swaying precariously. He sees people rushing out of buildings as they succumb to their terror and his fear heightens.
Adrenaline pumping in his blood forces him to grab a pair of discarded jeans, a windbreaker and his backpack before haphazardly putting them on. The tremors grow fiercer, and Seungri loses rational thought, stuffing his feet into bedroom slippers before running down the nearest stairway all the way down to the ground floor. There are people everywhere in the crowded stairwell, jostling against him. The sound of babies wailing ring in his ears and the elderly ahjumma living one floor above his is hobbling as fast as the rest of them despite her bad leg. There is chaos, and Seungri is at the heart of it.
When he reaches the entrance to his apartment, Seungri feels weakened by disbelief. It is hailing and raining fire from the skies all at once, leaving the ground with large holes which no one dares to approach. Then with a loud roar, thunder splits the sky into two as a chasm swallows most of the ground in front of him. There are people screaming, bleeding, crying and it is anarchy at its worst.
"We're dying!" Seungri hears someone say in mingled shock and horror and it is then that the truth seeps in. His legs turn to jelly as he surveys all the destruction occurring in front of him and feels a sense of helplessness.
"I'm going to die." Seungri laughs a little, incredulous at this scene normally found in sci-fi movies.
"Oh god, I'm going to die." He murmurs. Seungri trembles, watches as beside him, there are some who are as dumbfounded as him, as afraid as him.
The earth rumbles again and Seungri loses his balance; falls onto the ground. It shakes beneath him; quavers and trembles. In the distance, Seungri sees Seoul's prided concrete skyline collapse, one after another in a cloud of dust and ash. It is only a matter of time before his apartment block collapses and with this in mind, Seungri forces life into his numb legs, forces himself to stand up and save himself.
But where? An open space would leave him vulnerable to the fire and ice flooding the earth from the heavens and to the gaping cracks opening up in the ground. It's a decision between the frying pan and the fire and frankly, all Seungri wants to do is crawl into the arms of his beloved and hold him close.
"Ji," he thinks, the image of his lover crossing his mind for the first time. Is he dead? Alive? Injured? With dread weighing down his heart, Seungri pulls his backpack off his shoulders and rummages through it praying, hoping... and there it is, his cellphone, thankfully with reception.
Quivering fingers key in the numbers imprinted in his memory. His fingers slip, punches in an errant number and Seungri erases it, punches it in again. And then he presses the 'call' button, and brings his iPhone to his ears. Silence, then 'the number you have called is not in service. Please try again later.' Wetness falls from his eyes as he tries again amid the loud screams from all around him. Nothing this time. His phone falls with a clatter onto the wet ground as he forces himself to face the fact that Jiyong may very well be dead. A flash of his lover, buried amid rubble only makes the tears fall harder and with nowhere else to go and nobody else to care for, Seungri falls onto a heap on the ground, rocks back and forth in a fetal position.
'Oh god, oh god.'
This time he is filled with a sense of foreboding; doom. There is nothing else to live for, he thinks and a sob escapes from his lips.
'Ji baby, where are you? I want you so much, baby, where are you? Come to me. Come back to me, please, baby, please!'
